Circle of Sisters

A Club for Literary Discussion
Tampa, Florida - Established June 4, 2020

Club History

Anna Stevens Posey
1862 - 1917

Circle of Sisters was formed on June 4, 2020, by USF alumnus Christina Koehler, during her sophomore year. You could say running a book club is in Chrissy's DNA; in 1894, her great-great-great-grandmother, Anna Stevens Posey, helped form the Aurora Reading Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a book club for Black women. The Aurora Reading Club is one of the nation’s oldest Black arts and cultural organizations and is still in existence.

The name Circle of Sisters was approved by vote of the club after suggestion by member Verna Jordan.

This book club was established to empower women, and we are welcoming of women of all ages, races and backgrounds.
